Yeah Ljun, you're absolutely right in everything! Just because it's been a while since we've translated something into Nynorn Wink I need to keep things like that in mind too!

is it "drengi" in faroese?

In the sense of warrior, old norse has singular "drengr" and plural "drengir". That is why i wrote "drenger"

No, in Faroese it's "drongur - dreingir" (ON drengr-drengir). "Drengi" is the Norn form, so it gives "drengi-drengar" in Nynorn.

About "so dimm er essi dapri dag". It is one syllable too short. So i was thinking of changing it to "so dimm er essi dapri dag før"

So we get:

so dimm er essi dapri dag før
ned i møld at fara

Another thing i noticed is that i cant find the consonant cluster 'gn' neither in Jacobsens or Marwicks dictionary. I was therefor thinking of changing "randargnø" from the third stanza, to "randarnø".

Now, here is my guess how the next stanza should like like

Faroese:
Har komm maður á vøllin fram
eingin ið hann kendi
Síðan hatt á høvdi bar
og finskan boga í hendi

Nynorn
Dar kom nu mann å vollen fram
Engen eð hann kendi
Siðan hatt å hovdi bar
Og finskan boga i hendi

Don't think that's necessary Hrafn

we already added the 'so' word in order to add the missing syllable

the Faroese version is: "dimmur er hesin dapri dagur", and this gives as many syllables as "so dimm er essi dapri dag", at least when I humm it.
The difference being that in Faroese, when the male '-ur' ending is following a silent consonant, it kind of shortens; so while 'dimmur' is too long compared to 'dimm' and hence the adding of 'so', the words 'dagur' [dæ'ur] and 'niður' [ni'ur] are basically as short as 'dag' and 'ned', at least when you sing the words.
(OBS! in the Hildina Ballad, the Norn word for 'niður' is spelled 'nir', basically the same word as in Faroese, with at silent 'ð' Stanza 9: "u ria dor to strandane nir" "og riða dor to strandane niður" )

Next Stanza

Dar kom nu mann å vollen fram
Engen eð hann kendi
Siðan hatt å hovdi bar
Og finskan boga i hendi

Well, at least Westnorn has 'vadlen' (cf. Hildina) for 'vøllin', so maybe 'vallen' in Eastnorn?

'Høvd' is 'heved', but maybe 'hovd' as well?

I'll take a look at this stanza when I have time later.

Faroese:
Har kom maður á vøllin fram
eingin ið hann kendi
Síðan hatt á høvdi bar
og finskan boga í hendi

Nynorn
Dar kom mann å vallin fram
ingen eð hann kendi
sidan hatt å hevedi bar
og finskan boga i hendi

Head is 'heved', you could shorten it by leaving one vowel out like this "hev'di", but not really necessary.

I don't see the need to put 'nu' in front of 'mann' as there is no 'missing syllable' as such, ref. my explanation about the '-ur' ending after a silent consonant in Faroese.

Jakobsen gives voll, that's why I spelled it with o in the dictionary. When I was reviewing the website a few months ago I forgot to replace page V in the dictionary so now it's unavailable. I'll fix that in a few days.

Last stanza! :D

Faroese
Ormurin er skriðin av gullinum
tað man frættast víða
Sjúrður setist á Granar bak
hann býr seg til at ríða

Norn
Ormen er skriðen sjer av gollenon
Dað man frættast viða
Sjúrd hann setist å Granar bak
Hann byr sog til at riða

Now i had som problems with the number of syllables in the first sentence, so i added 'sjer'. I did this because as i understand the snake slither of the gold from itself.
