The first lesson says Ð is only included for completeness' sake because it can't start a word in Nynorn.

Actually, I can think of two times it might be used:

1) A word printed in all capitals (like a title of a chapter, etc.)

2) As an abbreviation, e.g., items in an outline:

A. first item
B. second item
D. third item
Ð. fourth item

I purely agree with you! In most languages such 'additional' letters are disregarded in many respects, but Nynorn will NOT be the case :) Ð, Å and Ø (and dialectally Æ and Þ) will have the same rights as the rest of the letters, not least as in the case 2). Thanks for pointing this out!

This is how I always imagined Faroese'd use it... Sadly, (at least I think so), most people use:

A. 1st item
B. 2nd item
C(!). 3rd item
D. 4th item

I've myself begun using either numbers (or Roman numerals) or the proper Faroese alphabet:

A.
Á.
B.
D.
Ð.
etc.
