This is interesting!

i am a new member here, from Sweden. I am studying old Swedish and other Nordic languages.

In Icelandic, Faroese, Danish and Norwegian the word for "animal" is "Dyr". In Swedish it is "Djur".

How can the word exist in Norn but it doesn't in any other language of the Nordic ones?

By the way I think that "Wheel" must have the mute "H" before the j. In modern Swedish it is still "Hjul".
It has still survived from the times when h- was in front of a lot of consonants.

Welcome Njord to our forum!
The word for animal in Faroese is 'djór'. Both Old Nordic variants (djór/dýr) come from Proto-Scandinavian *deur.
Yes, we normally keep hj- in Nynorn, like in Hjetland, pronounced [jetland].

To tokførari - thanks for your list! Actually, some of these words are already present in our Nynorn dictionary that you find on the website.
We don't use -er with adjectives either, so it has to be omitted. Now I'm working on the English <> Nynorn dictionary, so your ideas will be very useful! (now I can't comment on each particular word, will do that later).

Faroese uses both dýr and djór, actually. :)
