Guðen dag! I have something to ask you. It's been troubling me for a while now and I would like to discuss it with you! Do you think we should include all three 3.pl. pronouns (masc. fem. neu. ) in Orkney Nynorn or have only one like in continental scandinavian, namely *tei [tai]/ *þei [þai]. We know that Orkney Nynorn grammar was simpler than that of Shetland Nynorn, so it may be that the three 3.pl. pronouns ran together + it seems a bit unnecessary to have three different forms when we have no evidence of their existence (my opinion). Or should we keep them? *Tei < ON þeir *te < ON þær *tou < ON þau |

No, no dualis in Nynorn for sure, it's been not preserved by any modern Scandinavian language or dialect. We base personal pronouns 1,2p pl. on the old dualis, like Faroese and Icelandic: http://nornlanguage.x10.mx/index.php?nynorn_gr#c1. Even though this is Shetland Nynorn, the same system is planned for usage in Orkney Nynorn, cf. vee 'we', vus 'us' in . |
