The Ballad is in Scots but the refrain is Norn and runs thus:
Scowan örla groan
Whar giorten han grün oarlac.

Early green's the wood
Where the hart goes yearly

Probable original :
Skogen/Skoven ørla/årla grøn
Hvar gjorten han ???? årlig
