Norn: Dεa dombvidla vōga dεa vidla vōga pēsa [passion] vōga English: Easter-Sunday weather will last all the week. More correctly probably: the weather of Passion-week will be the weather of Easter week. http://nornlanguage.x10.mx/index.php?shettxt/64phrase |

Sorry for the repeated injections of Gaelic, I know it's not strictly on topic, but it's very interesting this phrase. In Kilfinan Parish, where I grew up, we had a name for this time: 'Latha na Cailliche' : Old Woman's Day Dh' iarr i trì làithean de dh' April airson marbhamh nan uan She (A' Chailleach Bheur) requested three days of April for killing the lambs -It means that the first three days in April were as cold as March. The Cailleach was a famous witch who resided in Argyll and could on any form that she desired. There are multiple fire-side stories associated with her, some of which are still told.... |
