Just to let everybody know that about 1/3 of our member list are spambots. You can see them at the end of the memberlist, and most of them have weird locations, such as Sierra Leone, Fiji or even "Crown point in.46307" (where's that? Rolling Eyes). Such profiles have one thing in common, they aren't confirmed, so they get automatically deleted 3 days after the registration. I used to delete unconfirmed profiles with spam links manually as soon as they appeared, but then gave up. I've been asking the administration of ForumUP why such profiles show up at all and whether the period of waiting can be reduced down to 1 day instead of 3, but still no reaction.

Anyway, without confirmation spammers can't post anything to the forum, so the only damage they can do is making a little mess on our memberlist. This is just for you to know, that if you want to contact a new member who f.ex. happens to be from your place, it can possibly be a spammer. But if a member has stayed on the memberlist for more than 3 days, then their profile must be genuine.

Unfortunately this is no longer true. Some days ago I discovered 5 registered spam profiles, two of them even posted a few messages on the forum. All of them are now deleted. Well, I say until the next time, unless the admin of ForumUp patches security holes in the phpBB code of the forum.
