Abbreviations: Sh.Sc. = Shetland Scots (the Scottish dialect spoken in Shetland today, though many of these words of Norn origin were already obsolete when they were gathered into a dictionary in the 19'th century), Hildina = Hildina Ballad (the most complete text in the Norn language, recorded by George Low, a Scottish minister who visited the island of Foula in 1774) G.Low 1774 = other words (than the Hildina Ballad) recorded by G.Low in Foula in 1774.
