I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I think we should translate the names of the Norse gods into Nynorn. I have been checking up on the phonological changes of Shetland Norn and based my suggestions upon them. So, tell me what you think or if this has been presented before.
Key: English name, Norse name - Shetland Nynorn name
Odin, Óðinn - Odinn Thor, Þórr - Tur (?, I know tjordin means thunder so this one is questionable) Loki, Loki - Loki (stays the same) Balder, Baldr - Bald (bald means bold, so this one is easy) Frey, Freyr - Frø (?) Tyr, Týr - Tør (?) Bragi, Bragi - Bragi Ull, Ullr - Ull Njord, Njørðr - Njørð (since "rð" makes an "rd" sound, I preserved the "ð") Freya, Freyja, - Frøja Vali, Váli - Våli (probably self-explanatory) Hoenir, Hœnir - Høni (I took out the "r" because weak nouns end in just "i")
I know there's many more, but that's a good list for now...
Tell me what you think. Dakk.
